What we offer

• Salary £60,000 - £80,000

Requirements

• Planning and executing schema and data migrations in a 24x7 live environment, particularly under MySQL.
• Detecting, diagnosing, and resolving DB performance issues and relating them back to their causes in code, particularly in an ORM environment.
• Database scalability under conditions of high and growing demand and comprehensive auditability and records retention requirements.
• MySQL (or MariaDB) and AWS RDS/Aurora
• Tools to assess the health of database systems like AWS Performance Insights, AWS CloudWatch or DataDog

Bonus

• Ruby on Rails Active Record ORM
• Terraform, Redis/AWS Elasticache and Kafka

Role

• Be part of the agile engineering process and participate in design reviews

• Consult with our engineering teams to improve the current data model, identify and optimise slow queries and other database bottlenecks queries, and tune database configurations to our workload
• Participate in code reviews, establish and champion good practices and standards
• Enhance the database observability (metrics, logs, traces, alerts)
• Write code to automate operational processes
• Debug issues across multiple services
• Educate fellow engineers
